Policy to Practice: Drug & Alcohol Testing and Reasonable Suspicion
CWiE Edmonton Chapter Technical Session · Thursday, November 26, 2026
In safety-sensitive energy roles, impairment on the job can lead to serious incidents. A strong drug and alcohol program is one of the best ways to prevent them, but only if it works in practice as well as on paper.
In this technical session, Erin Baird, VP of Client Relations at SureHire, will cover:
- Testing best practices. How effective drug and alcohol testing programs support incident prevention, meet regulatory expectations, and strengthen safety culture.
- Reasonable suspicion training for supervisors. The key components, how to apply them on the job, and why spotting impairment early helps reduce workplace hazards.
- Hands-on impairment simulation. Put on impairment simulation goggles and experience firsthand how impairment affects safety and performance.
