Canadian Women in Energy (CWiE) is an inclusive, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, supporting and empowering women in Canada’s energy sector. We are women supporting women. Members are directly engaged in all areas of the energy industry and are comprised of a dynamic collection of professional women with integrity, shared professional and personal aspirations. We facilitate meaningful approaches to networking and embrace new ways of enriching our connections. CWiE strives to make a positive impact on both our industry and our community through charitable work, organic mentorship and education.
Our three pillars of success include; Philanthropy, Education and Networking.
These policies and codes of practice will help the non-profit organization maintain a supportive and respectful environment, foster positive interactions, and ensure that its activities align with its mission of supporting women in the energy sector.
As a non-profit organization, CWiE has a duty to provide guidance to its members on the standards of behaviour and ethical conduct with respect to membership of Canadian Women in Energy. As professionals in the energy industry, members are obliged and encouraged to comply with a Code of Ethics prescribed by CWiE and adopted by the organization to uphold the integrity of the organization as a whole. Professional membership standing requires a level of conduct that adds value to the organizations and to the industry we serve.
Our code not only is to protect our members and Board of Directors, but our stakeholders, and those directly or indirectly affiliated with the organization. It applies to all members whether at CWiE events or industry functions.
We foster an environment of mutual respect and professionalism, where all members, regardless of their roles, are treated with dignity and courtesy.
We are committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity within the organization’s leadership, membership, and programs, ensuring equal opportunities for women of all backgrounds.
CWiE members, no matter what their position, are expected to be inclusive and show mutual respect and consideration for other members, stakeholders, employees, employers and partners. CWiE does not tolerate discrimination, harassment or violence of any kind within our organization. We aim to foster a psychologically safe environment. This is an environment where members feel safe to be themselves, to speak up, where respectful debates and opinions are free from ridicule or prejudice. CWiE complies with all applicable laws pertaining to discrimination. We do not tolerate any forms of discrimination based on a person’s age, ancestry, citizenship, race, family status, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, physical or mental disability, place of origin, religion or creed, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation or any other status protected by applicable laws.
Harassment is prohibited under the Alberta Criminal Code, and all necessary measures must be taken to deal with such a situation of harassment for the members of CWiE. We are committed to a work environment where everyone feels safe and valued for the diversity they bring to our business. We treat each other with respect and do not tolerate harassment or any threats or acts of violence within this organization. Harassment is distinguishable from everyday social interactions that are part of a normal, vibrant workplace. Harassment generally involves behaviour that demeans, humiliates or intimidates / threatens a person. This could include actions (touching or pushing), comments (jokes or name-calling) or visual displays (posters or cartoons) that could be perceived as insulting or intimidating or which otherwise create an uncomfortable or threatening work environment. Harassment can also occur online or through social media and may take the form of inappropriate emails, texts and social media posts. We also do not tolerate any acts of violence or threatening behaviour in the workplace. Violence includes obvious physical acts, such as hitting, shoving or kicking but also includes any threat or intimidating behaviour.
Maintain confidentiality in sensitive matters and protect the personal and professional information of members and stakeholders.

Maintain transparency in financial matters, decision-making processes, and the organization’s activities, providing clear and accessible information to members and regulatory bodies.
Provide guidelines for using social media and communication platforms, emphasizing respectful and inclusive communication that reflects the organization’s values.
Members have the opportunity to opt out of being included or referenced on social media posts per consent form.
Our events and activities follow the policies set out in this document and align with our three pillars; Philanthropy, Education and Networking. Events are vetted by the Board of Directors.
Adhere to ethical fundraising practices, ensuring that funds are used responsibly and in alignment with the organization’s mission.
CWiE provides community volunteering opportunities to membership on regular basis. CWiE volunteering opportunities align with CWiE values, are vetted by the Board of Directors, and aimed to provide a sense of accomplishment and facilitate new connections among members. No prior volunteer experience is required in order to participate.
CWiE has a duty to avoid exposing volunteers to health and safety risks. At the start of each volunteering event, all volunteers are made aware of health and safety policy that is based on the nature of volunteering activity. Volunteers are expected to comply with the policy and receive appropriate support and supervision in their activity.
CWiE encourages engagement in community and environmental initiatives that align with the organization’s values and promote positive social impact.
CWiE has established a fair and effective process for addressing conflicts or disputes among members, ensuring a respectful and constructive resolution.
Specify the procedures for membership renewal, suspension, or termination based on non-compliance with the organization’s policies.
Members who participate in discriminatory, harassing or violent behaviour will be subject to appropriate remedial and/or disciplinary action, up to and including permanent termination of membership.
If you have witnessed or experienced any violations of this policy, speak to an individual on the board of directors so that we can investigate and take proper measures.
CWiE takes all acts of non-compliance very seriously and has processes in place to address these situations.
Address conflicts of interest that may arise among board members, volunteers, or staff, and provide guidance on disclosure and management.
The Board of Directors is consulted prior to the confirmation of speakers, events, and volunteering opportunities, etc, to be align with our organizational goals. Directors and Sub Committee members are to conduct themselves in a way that is not self-serving and prioritizes the membership as a whole.
CWiE operates with clearly defined roles and responsibilities for board members, and volunteers, and ensures proper governance and accountability mechanisms.
