Breaking Barriers

Canadian Women in Enery

Our Story

In 2002, a small group of visionary women in Calgary, Alberta came together with a shared goal: to create a space where like-minded women in the energy industry could connect, collaborate, and grow. Originally founded as Calgary Women in Energy (CWiE), the organization was built on a commitment to fostering meaningful relationships and supporting one another’s professional and personal aspirations.

Through organic growth and expanding connections across the province, CWiE evolved beyond Calgary — becoming Canadian Women in Energy in 2024 and adding a second chapter in Edmonton. From just six founding members to more than 600 members and counting, our community continues to empower women across Canada’s energy sector to thrive, lead, and make an impact.

Built upon the three pillars of Philanthropy, Education, and Networking, CWiE has evolved into a vibrant and inclusive community that empowers women, enriches careers, and drives positive change across Canada’s energy sector. What started as a simple idea has grown into a dynamic network that continues to inspire and energize women to this day.
