Join the CWiE Edmonton Chapter for our May Tech Session, hosted in collaboration with AltaGas at their Edmonton Ethane Extraction Facility.

Join Canadian Women in Energy for a boots-on-the-ground facility tour of the AltaGas Edmonton Ethane Extraction Plant, offering a unique opportunity to see operations firsthand at a large-scale straddle plant within Edmonton city limits. This guided walking tour will provide insight into ethane extraction operations, plant infrastructure, and day-to-day facility management. PPE is required. See below for requirements. Shuttle service will operate from 3:00–4:20 PM, with departures every 20 minutes from Rec Room South Common to the Edmonton Ethane Extraction Plant (north gate access on 29 Ave) with last bus leaving at 4 PM. Return shuttles will run from 6:00–6:40 PM, transporting attendees back.

Speakers included:

Ryan Scott is the AltaGas Operations Superintendent for the EEEP and JEEP ethane extraction plants. He spends his time supporting crews, solving problems, and keeping the facilities running smoothly. He started in the oil and gas industry with zero experience, learning the ropes one job at a time. As he discovered more about the industry, he started taking courses and earned his First Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency. Ryan has 20 years of experience working at sour gas plants, growing his skills, and working his way up in leadership. He is passionate about supporting his team’s development and seeing people tackle challenges, build confidence, and find their footing just like he did.

Kenneth Preston is the Terminal Supervisor for the AltaGas Fort Saskatchewan Terminal. AltaGas acquired this facility from Petrogas and Kenneth plays a key role in aligning the facility with AltaGas policies and procedures. Prior to this role Kenneth was the Maintenance Supervisor for AltaGas, Central Alberta. In this time Kenneth led a diverse Maintenance Team, developing maintenance best practices and modernizing the maintenance work management process.

Leeland Sundsten is the Operations Manager for Central Alberta at AltaGas Ltd. With over 25 years in the Canadian energy industry, he is a 1st Class Power Engineer and NAIT graduate with leadership experience spanning gas processing, extraction, petrochemical, and field operations. He is a past Board Chair of EAPUOC and remains active in industry and community engagement.
